Depiction of a human oocyte at the end of its growth phase (germinal vesicle stage, prophase I), shortly before meiotic maturation. This was a personal project and I put in extra effort to get the details right such as whether there’s a nuclear membrane, whether the DNA is condensed or not, the presence of cumulus cells etc. The oocyte, nucleus, zona pellucida and cumulus cells are to scale, but ultrastructures such as DNA, membrane thickness, and filopodia are scaled up for visualisation.
